Top Northeast Schools for Aspiring Business Majors

Business has long been one of the most popular undergraduate majors, with students choosing specialties from a wide range of options.  The pandemic has not lessened its popularity but has emphasized the importance of adapting to the ever-changing business environment.

A recent Money article, “The 10 Best Business Colleges in the U.S.,” names four Northeast colleges and universities at the very top of its list.  City University of New York’s Baruch College earned first place, with its Manhattan location and “its promise of real-life training in the business world, and its commitment to making connections with potential employers.” Its estimated annual price of $4,300 (with average grant) adds to the appeal.

Babson College, just outside of Boston, earned second place. It has an international reputation for its Entrepreneurship program, even out-ranking M.I.T., University of California-Berkeley and University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School on the prestigious rankings by US. News & World Report. Its estimated annual price, according to Money, is $30,900 (with average grant).

Bentley University, also outside of Boston, came in third place. “With its very own trading room, dual screen monitors and Bloomberg terminals, Bentley University demonstrates its commitment to training future business leaders in the fast-paced world they’ll enter after graduation,” according to Money. Bentley enjoys a stellar reputation for its internship placement and career services. Its estimated annual price, with average grant, is $40,000, according to Money.

University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia-based Ivy League school with its elite Wharton School of Business, earned Money’s fourth spot.  Its attraction, according to Money, includes a faculty of the country’s top business leaders and thinkers, and a flexible curriculum that allows students to study abroad to prepare for a career in international business. Its estimated annual price, according to Money, is $27,400 (with average grant).

College-bound students seeking additional information on best-fit colleges should also consult the “Best Colleges” guide by U.S. News & World Report. This annual publication delves deeper into specialties within the field of business, listing its top-ranked schools in each category.  For example, University of Texas-Austin tops the list for Accounting, Babson for Entrepreneurship, University of Pennsylvania for both Finance and Real Estate, University of Wisconsin-Madison for Insurance/Risk Management, University of South Carolina for International Business, University of Michigan for both Management and Marketing, Carnegie Mellon for Management Information Systems, M.I.T. for both Production/Operations Management and Quantitative Analysis/Methods, and Michigan State for Supply Chain Management/Logistics.

There is a wealth of information for future business majors to review when seeking the ideal college for their career aspirations.
